Logline
A couple in love, searching for their biological roots, makes a discovery that will shatter their perfect life.
Synopsis
Emily and Robert share a flawless marriage—until the truth finds them. While Emily searches for her biological father, Robert avoids his own origins at all costs. When Emily’s DNA test reveals new siblings and confirms her pregnancy, their future feels secure. Robert finally takes a test of his own.
Married, in love, and expecting a baby, Emily finally meets the father she’s been searching for. As Emily introduces herself to her father, Robert turns on his DNA Family Circle notification app, and their lives are forever changed.
Creator’s Statement
This film was inspired by the real fears explored in the documentary The Man with 1000 Kids. What struck me most was not just the scale of one donor fathering hundreds of children, but the quiet anxiety expressed by parents in small communities—especially in parts of the Netherlands—who began to realize that their children might unknowingly meet, date, or even marry someone they were biologically related to.
At its heart, this film isn’t about shock or scandal. It’s about love, identity, and the fragile stories we build about who we are. Emily and Robert believe they know each other completely. They believe they know their future. But a simple search for truth—something many of us pursue through DNA testing today—unravels the foundation of their lives.
I was drawn to the emotional tension between curiosity and fear: one partner desperate for answers, the other terrified of what those answers might reveal. The story explores how technology meant to connect families can also expose truths that are almost impossible to live with.
Ultimately, this film asks a disturbing question: in a world where genetics is increasingly searchable and interconnected, how well do we really know the people we love—and ourselves? And what would YOU do in this situation?
Director - Screenwriter - Director of Photography
Henrik A. Meyer found himself drawn to the camera at the age of 10 when he first started taking pictures, which turned into a lifelong passion for photography. This passion has led him to a long career as a cinematographer, and both this wealth of experience and a lifelong love of telling stories have set the foundation for his foray into the role of Director.
Henrik’s interest in directing stems from his deep appreciation for all pieces of the cinematic process—he thrives on being involved in every aspect of the final product, but more importantly, on collaborating with the many artists, he works alongside on each of his projects. His many world travels (over 40 countries!) have influenced his open-minded perspective toward his work, and he believes the best process involves the input and creative vision from every member of the team. His diverse travels and deep interest in each person’s unique story are the signature inspirations behind Henrik’s films, which are often based on true events but intentionally depicted through a universal lens.
A native of Denmark who spent 15 years in the Danish film industry, Henrik’s directorial journey was largely inspired by his colleagues Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Charlotte Sieling (Homeland, Lovecraft Country). A more recent and highly influential experience has been a series of screenwriting courses with John Warren (Young Screenwriters). He has had experience directing small commercial specs for brands like White Claw and Full Sail University, while also directing, writing, and producing his own short films, including The Blue Car (official selection of the Oxford and DC Shorts film festivals) and his newest work, Stay (2022), Happy Box was in final decision meeting at Cannes and Sundance Film Festival. (2023) and Do You Still Love Me? (2025).
Meg Wells - Thaia
The work I'm exploring as an actress is playing women who are fiercely determined, super driven, or obsessed with someone or something. Whether it's a corporate entrepreneur, a "stage 5 clinger" girlfriend, an investigator, or a driven artist (to name a few), I feel confident and always bring my A-game playing these go-getter characters who are "all consumed" by either what they want or who they want. These characters ambitiously "get shit done" so to speak, either comedically or dramatically!
Think roles like:
- Anna Kendrick in "Up in the Air"
- Reese Witherspoon in "Election"
- Isla Fisher in "Wedding Crashers"
- Victoria Pedretti in "You"
Joey Cook - Robert
Joey Cook is a multifaceted film actor known by audiences for his work in independent films and known in the industry for the level of professionalism and energy he brings to set. Trained at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, he recently starred in the upcoming Reel Splatter indie horror feature "Dead Format" (2026) and starred in the award-winning short film "Every Other Kid" (2024). Joey brings a natural yet emotional intensity to his roles and is equally adept at character-driven comedy and stunt-based action. When not on set, he is an avid trading card and video game enjoyer and fluent in Korean.
Douglas Cameron Duncan - Gregg
Douglas Cameron Duncan is an actor and entrepreneur based in New York City.
Douglas has an artistic home at T. Schreiber Studio where he studied extensively with Peter Jensen, among others. Having appeared in several Off-Off-Broadway shows, Douglas is thrilled to be on film in Adnate.
Many thanks to Henrik, cast and crew for a wonderful experience, and to my husband Michael for his support.

Director of Photography
My name is Andrew Abballe and I am a Brooklyn-based Cinematographer, avid photographer, and experienced colorist. I have a wide background in mainly narrative projects, commercials, music videos, and corporate content. I have two feature-length films and several short films under my belt as well. Commercial clients also include Rolex, Roche Bobois, WeWork, Google, Hasbro, LG Electronics, and more. I'm however always looking to expand my repertoire and will gladly work on projects of all shapes and sizes. In 2015, I graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film/Video and a concentration in Cinematography. Since then, I have been working professionally in the industry for the past nine years.
As a naturally quiet person, I use images to express my thoughts, ideas, and emotions. Pictures allow my voice to be heard when words seem to fail me.
Sound Designer - Mixer - Composer
Zayn Mufti grew up in the fog of San Francisco, California, and started his audio journey very early in life. Beginning with piano lessons at age 5, he quickly became captivated by anything that made a noise. Zayn started in the school orchestra at the beginning of middle school and took up guitar, bass, and drums later on.
His love for music led him to college, where he attended San Francisco State University and later Academy of Art University, where he received my MFA in Music Composition and Sound Design for Visual Media.
Currently, Zayn has relocated to New York City, where he does freelance audio post-production work for independent game studios, films, and other local creatives.
In his free time away from my professional work, he enjoys backpacking, cooking, and of course, gaming.
